The New York Jets have traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos, parting ways with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft after just three disappointing seasons.
Wilson struggled mightily in his first two seasons in New York before the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers to be their starter last offseason. After Rodgers went down for the season with an injury, Wilson took over as the starter again but was unable to play consistently or effectively, showing few signs of improvement.
The Jets are reportedly expected to pay a portion of Wilson’s $5.5 million salary for this season. Wilson will look to restart his career in Denver, where he will play behind Russell Wilson.
This move is reminiscent of how the Jets moved on from Sam Darnold in 2021, trading him to Carolina just a few weeks before New York drafted Wilson.
