Jets Trade Zach Wilson to Broncos
The New York Jets have traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos for a seventh-round pick in this week’s NFL draft and a sixth-rounder in 2024, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft, struggled in his three seasons with the Jets, going 12-21 as a starter with 23 passing touchdowns and 25 interceptions. He was expected to be the face of the franchise but failed to live up to expectations.
The Jets are expected to pay a portion of Wilson’s $5.5 million salary for this season.
The move is reminiscent of how the Jets moved on from Sam Darnold in 2021, trading him to Carolina just a few weeks before New York drafted Wilson. Darnold was the third overall pick out of USC in 2018, but — like Wilson — failed to live up to the lofty expectations.
