Jharkhand Suspends Classes up to Grade 8 Due to Scorching Heat

Due to the prevailing heat wave-like conditions in Jharkhand, the state government has ordered the suspension of classes up to grade 8 in all government and private schools from Tuesday. The decision, which was announced by the secretary of the school education and literacy department, Uma Shankar Singh, aims to protect students from the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice and applies to all categories of schools, including government, private, aided, and unaided institutions. However, it does not extend to teachers and non-teaching staff, who are required to attend school during scheduled hours. A separate order regarding summer vacation for these employees will be announced soon. Notably, classes 9 to 12 will continue as usual, but with adjusted timings from 7 am to 11:30 am. This exclusion aims to minimize the time students spend outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. The decision was made in response to a heatwave alert issued by the Meteorological Department for 13 districts in Jharkhand for April 30 and May 1. The move underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of its students during this period of extreme heat.
