Country music star Jimmie Allen has finally addressed the aftermath of a pair of sexual assault lawsuits filed against him last year in a lengthy video posted to YouTube. In an hour-long conversation with his friend and early supporter Kathie Lee Gifford, conducted in the kitchen of her Nashville home, Allen candidly shared his struggles and offered a tearful apology, while also avoiding a deep dive into the details of the lawsuits. One of the lawsuits had already been settled, and Allen spoke openly about the emotional toll it took on him when the “whole world collapsed” as a result of losing his record deal, being dropped by his PR firm, and having business deals canceled. The initial lawsuit and the subsequent public scrutiny led him to a dark place where he contemplated suicide. Allen admitted that he had not heeded Gifford’s advice early in his career to “stay close to Jesus and away from the women.” He confessed to feeling pressure to conform to others’ expectations, which led him to rush into marriage and engage in extramarital affairs. Allen also acknowledged that he struggled with his identity and tried to be someone he wasn’t. He reasoned that as long as he provided for his family, he was “good” and had the freedom to do as he pleased. However, the lawsuits shattered that illusion and left him feeling guilty and lost. Allen says that he is now largely sober and focused on his family and music. He expressed gratitude for the support he received from friends, including “some of the biggest actors in Hollywood,” and plans to release a new single soon.
