JJ McCarthy Hints at Giants’ Draft Plans with Personal Visits

Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, the national title-winning quarterback, has emerged as a top prospect in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. With the draft set to begin on Thursday night, McCarthy has been linked to several teams, including the New York Giants, who hold the No. 6 overall pick.

In an interview on the “Rich Eisen Show,” McCarthy revealed that he has spent the most time with the Giants during the draft process, indicating their potential interest in drafting him. He praised the team’s coaching staff, led by head coach Brian Daboll, and mentioned his familiarity with their offensive system, which is similar to the one he ran at Michigan.

The Giants were not initially expected to be in the market for a quarterback after signing Daniel Jones to a four-year extension in 2023. However, Jones struggled before suffering a season-ending ACL injury, and reports have emerged that the Giants may be willing to move on from him. McCarthy’s fit with the Giants’ system and his strong performance at Michigan make him a possible target for the team if they decide to select a quarterback.

McCarthy also mentioned that he has visited the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders, but his emphasis on the Giants suggests that they could be the frontrunners to draft him. With Caleb Williams expected to go No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears, McCarthy’s name will be one to watch closely as the draft unfolds.

As a Michigan product, McCarthy could find himself adding “Big” in between “Go Blue” if he is selected by the Giants. His familiarity with the team’s system and his impressive college career make him a potential star in the Big Apple.
