JJ Redick, the former Duke star and NBA veteran, is interviewing for the vacant head coaching job with the Charlotte Hornets, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Redick, who retired from the NBA in 2021 after a 15-year career, has not held any formal coaching positions. However, he has expressed interest in coaching and has hosted several popular basketball podcasts, including “The Old Man and the Three” and “Mind the Game” with LeBron James.
Redick has a strong basketball knowledge and is widely respected across the league. He has served as an analyst for ESPN since his retirement and was recently elevated to the network’s No. 1 broadcast team. This is Redick’s second attempt at securing an NBA coaching position, having interviewed for the Raptors’ head coaching job last year.
The Hornets are in the midst of a coaching search after Steve Clifford resigned at the end of the season to transition into a front-office role. The team is coming off a dismal season, finishing with a 21-61 record, the third-worst in the league. Several other names have been discussed for the coaching role, including Jerry Stackhouse, Jordan Ott, and Royal Ivey.
