Hollywood stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have joined the cast of ’28 Years Later,’ the long-awaited sequel to the 2002 zombie hit ’28 Days Later.’ Original filmmakers Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting for the project, which is set to launch a trilogy.
Boyle will direct the first film from a script penned by Garland, and they will also produce the project alongside original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice. Details about the characters to be played by Comer, Taylor-Johnson, and Fiennes are being kept under wraps.
’28 Days Later’ starred Cillian Murphy as a man who awakens from a coma only to discover that London and the rest of the world have been devastated by a rage virus that turns people into savage zombie-like creatures. A sequel, ’28 Weeks Later,’ was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and set after the events of the first film. It depicted the efforts of military forces to salvage a safe zone in London, but the virus is reintroduced after two young siblings break protocol to find their mother.
Comer, who rose to fame for her role in the award-winning series ‘Killing Eve,’ will next be seen in the period motorcycle drama ‘The Bikeriders.’ Taylor-Johnson, known for his roles in films such as ‘Bullet Train’ and ‘Tenet,’ will appear in the upcoming action-comedy ‘The Fall Guy,’ co-starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. He is also set to headline the Marvel feature ‘Kraven the Hunter.’ Fiennes, a veteran actor with an impressive filmography, recently starred in the critically acclaimed dark comedy ‘The Menu’ and the James Bond film ‘No Time to Die.’
