Joe Ryan Shines with Career-High Strikeouts as Twins Beat White Sox

Joe Ryan put on a dominant performance on Wednesday night at Target Field, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. The 27-year-old right-hander struck out eight batters over six innings, allowing only three runs. It was Ryan’s first win of the season and the Twins’ first series sweep of the year.

The Twins jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, with Christian Vazquez driving in a run on an RBI single and Willi Castro hitting a three-run home run. The White Sox cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning, but the Twins added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Matt Bowman, Brock Stewart, and Griffin Jax combined to pitch three shutout innings of relief for the Twins.

Ryan’s outing was his best of the season, and he now has a 1-1 record with a 3.38 ERA. The Twins, meanwhile, improved to 10-15 on the season and will go for a three-game sweep of the White Sox on Thursday afternoon.
