The Long Beach multi-service center, which offers a range of services to homeless individuals, including medical assistance and employment support, has launched a new food pantry specifically for pets. Paul Duncan, the homeless services bureau manager, highlighted the significance of this program, stating that pets play a vital role in the lives of many experiencing homelessness, offering companionship, unconditional love, and a sense of well-being. The pet food pantry is stocked with Kismet foods, a pet brand co-founded by John Legend himself. Legend emphasized that homeless individuals often face negative stereotypes, being perceived as a problem or a burden on society. He stressed that these individuals are human beings who deserve love, care, and support, including assistance for their beloved pets.
Dr. Kwane Stewart, founder of Project Street Vet, a San Diego-based organization that provides free veterinary care to homeless pets in LA’s Skid Row and surrounding areas, is also contributing to the initiative. Stewart expressed the organization’s commitment to creating top-quality pet food while simultaneously addressing the needs of vulnerable pets.
