John Logan to Adapt Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Blood Meridian’ for New Regency

John Logan, the screenwriter behind the James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ and the Oscar-winning ‘Hugo’, has been tapped to adapt Cormac McCarthy’s acclaimed Western novel ‘Blood Meridian’ for New Regency. The film will be directed by John Hillcoat, who previously helmed the adaptation of McCarthy’s ‘The Road’.

‘Blood Meridian’ is a sprawling epic set in the 1850s along the Texas-Mexico border. The story follows the journey of the Kid, a 14-year-old from Tennessee who joins a group of scalp hunters led by the ruthless Judge Holden. As they traverse the brutal and unforgiving landscape, the Kid witnesses the horrors of war and the depths of human depravity.

The novel is known for its descriptive violence, bleak portrayal of humanity, and its exploration of themes such as good versus evil, the nature of violence, and the search for meaning in a chaotic world. Logan’s adaptation will undoubtedly be a faithful and cinematic interpretation of McCarthy’s masterpiece.

Logan has a proven track record of adapting classic works of literature for the screen. In addition to ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Hugo’, his credits include Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’, Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Aviator’, and Tim Burton’s ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’. He is also behind the screenplay for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’, starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson and Colman Domingo, which is due out in April 2025 via Lionsgate.

New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann said in a statement, ‘Blood Meridian’ is one of the most revered novels in American literature, from one of the greatest writers. We knew we needed a very special talent to be able to adapt this seminal book and John Logan was our first choice. His prolific talent and remarkable track record consistently demonstrate his ability to transform cherished stories and texts into cinematic accomplishments.’

The adaptation of ‘Blood Meridian’ is sure to be a major cinematic event, bringing McCarthy’s powerful and disturbing novel to a new generation of viewers. With John Logan at the helm, the film is in capable hands and promises to be a faithful and unforgettable cinematic experience.
