Jon Stewart, in the latest episode of ‘The Daily Show,’ took aim at media coverage of former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
Stewart played a montage of clips from major cable news networks, including CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, in which anchors and pundits acknowledge their past shortcomings in reporting on Trump. He sarcastically remarked that the trial would either showcase the media’s newfound maturity or prove that they are incapable of learning from their mistakes.
Stewart also criticized the media’s excessive coverage of Trump’s arrival at the courthouse and his motorcade’s journey through New York City traffic. He argued that such coverage was creating an unnecessary spectacle and likened it to the infamous car chase of O.J. Simpson.
Stewart’s critique extended to the analysis of courtroom sketches on CNN. He questioned the value of speculating on the emotions depicted in a sketch and pointed out that it was essentially analyzing a work of art rather than objective reporting.
In one particularly humorous segment, Stewart showed a clip of CNN host Erin Burnett asking a sketch artist if Trump appeared to be sleeping in one of the sketches. The artist, sitting in the courtroom, responded that she had been struggling to get Trump’s eyes right from her distant vantage point.
