Jordi Fernandez, a former assistant coach and G League head coach, has been appointed as the Brooklyn Nets’ new permanent head coach. Previously serving under Mike Brown as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings, Fernandez’s primary objective is to deliver immediate results. “We will see results right away because this industry is about getting results,” Fernandez expressed at a press conference.
Fernandez assumes the position from interim coach Kevin Ollie, who replaced Jacque Vaughn after his dismissal during the regular season. With his background at the Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as head coach of the G League’s Cleveland Charge, Fernandez has accumulated a wealth of experience.
General Manager Sean Marks expressed his confidence in Fernandez’s abilities: “Jordi brings a diverse set of experiences and basketball knowledge… He’s proven the ability to build genuine relationships and garner the respect of players of all levels, and we’re confident that our players will benefit greatly from his expertise.”
Fernandez has also led the Canadian national team as their head coach. He has previously sought numerous head coaching vacancies, including the Charlotte Hornets’ recent opening.
Fernandez’s appointment signals a new direction for the Nets, who missed the playoffs and must make critical roster decisions this summer. The Nets are optimistic about Fernandez’s ability to optimize their roster and foster a winning environment.
