Jordi Fernández Named Head Coach of Brooklyn Nets
Jordi Fernández has been hired as the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced Wednesday. Fernández, a 42-year-old native of Spain, has spent the last 15 years coaching in the NBA, G League, and international competition.
Fernández began his coaching career in 2009 as a player development coach with the Los Angeles Lakers under Mike Brown. He later served as an assistant coach with the Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings before being hired as the head coach of the Spanish national team in 2019.
As head coach of Spain, Fernández led the team to a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup. He also coached Spain to a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Fernández is known for his player development skills and his ability to get the most out of his players. He is also a strong tactician and has a reputation for being a hard worker.
The Nets are hoping that Fernández can help them take the next step after a disappointing season in which they finished 32-50 and missed the playoffs. The Nets have a young and talented roster, but they have struggled to find consistency and have been plagued by injuries.
Fernández will be tasked with getting the Nets to play more consistently and to develop their young players. He will also need to find a way to get the most out of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, who are two of the best players in the NBA.
The Nets are confident that Fernández is the right coach to lead them to success. They believe that he has the experience, the knowledge, and the passion to help them reach their goals.
Fernández Excited for Opportunity to Coach Nets
“I am very excited to be the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets,” Fernández said. “This is a great opportunity for me to coach a talented team in a great city. I am looking forward to working with the players, the staff, and the fans to bring a championship to Brooklyn.”
Fernández Praises Nets’ Young Players
Fernández was particularly complimentary of the Nets’ young players, including Nic Claxton, Cam Thomas, and Day’Ron Sharpe. He said that he is excited to work with them and help them develop into stars.
“I believe that we have a bright future,” Fernández said. “We have a lot of young talent on this team, and I am confident that we can achieve great things together.”
Fernández’s Coaching Philosophy
Fernández said that he believes in playing a fast-paced, up-tempo style of basketball. He wants his teams to be aggressive on defense and to share the ball on offense.
“I want to create a culture of winning in Brooklyn,” Fernández said. “I want our team to be known for its hard work, its dedication, and its passion. I believe that we can achieve anything if we work together.”
Fernández’s Plans for Summer
Fernández said that he plans to spend the summer getting to know his players and his staff. He will also be working on developing a game plan for the upcoming season.
“I am excited to get started,” Fernández said. “I can’t wait to get to work with the Nets and to help them achieve their goals.”
