Juventus’s frustrating scoreless streak continued in Serie A on Saturday, as they were held to a goalless draw by Napoli. This marked the third consecutive match in domestic competition where the Turin giants failed to find the back of the net. Despite their dominance in possession throughout the game, Juventus couldn’t break down a resolute Napoli defense.
While Juventus remains the only team in Europe’s top five leagues yet to concede a goal, their domestic campaign has been plagued by a lack of goals since the beginning of September. Their last goal in Serie A came in their opening game of the season, a 3-0 victory over Udinese on August 20.
Napoli, on the other hand, came close to snatching a win on several occasions. Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio was in inspired form, making crucial saves throughout the match. He denied Scott McTominay’s attempt from outside the box in the first half and then leaped to tip a dangerous free-kick from Matteo Politano over the bar just before halftime.
Politano had another golden opportunity to put Napoli ahead after the break but his strike from the edge of the box went narrowly over the bar.
The game was a tightly contested affair, with both teams showing impressive defensive solidity. Juventus’ Gleison Bremer kept Romelu Lukaku under control, while Napoli’s backline successfully stifled Dusan Vlahovic, who was replaced by Timothy Weah at halftime.
Despite being held to a draw, Juventus remains in fourth place in the standings with nine points, just one point behind third-placed Napoli, who have now gone unbeaten in their last four games. Juventus will next travel to Genoa on September 28 before facing RB Leipzig in the Champions League on October 2. Napoli, on the other hand, will host Monza in their next Serie A fixture, followed by a Coppa Italia match against Palermo on Thursday.
