Juventus Reaches Coppa Italia Final Despite Second-Leg Defeat to Lazio

Juventus has advanced to the final of the Coppa Italia despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Lazio in the second leg of their semifinal on Tuesday. The Bianconeri had claimed a 2-0 victory in the first leg at home, giving them a 3-2 aggregate advantage. Lazio made a strong start to the second leg, with Valentin Castellanos equalizing the tie with two goals in the first 48 minutes. However, Juventus remained resilient and Arkadiusz Milik scored the decisive goal just seven minutes from time, securing the club’s 22nd Coppa Italia final appearance. Juventus, a record 14-time Coppa Italia winner, last lifted the trophy in the 2020-21 season. Lazio’s hopes for a comeback were ignited when Castellanos headed home a corner from Luis Alberto in the 12th minute. He nearly scored again just before halftime but was denied by Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin. However, Castellanos made no mistake after the break, leveling the tie with a low shot past Perin. Juventus responded well to the setback, with Dusan Vlahovic having two close chances before Milik struck from close range to book the spot in the final. The Bianconeri’s goal came from a long cross from the left by Filip Kostic, which was squared to Milik by Timothy Weah, and the Polish striker finished with a tap-in just two minutes after entering the pitch. Juventus will now face either Atalanta or Fiorentina in the final on May 15 at Stadio Olimpico. Atalanta hosts Fiorentina in the other semifinal on Wednesday, with the Viola holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
