K Yere Goud Returns as Karnataka Men’s Cricket Team Head Coach

K Yere Goud, a former batter, has returned to his role as the head coach of the Karnataka men’s cricket team for the upcoming domestic season. The state cricket association announced his appointment on Thursday. Goud replaces PV Shashikanth, who served as coach for the past two seasons. This marks Goud’s second stint as head coach of the senior team, having previously led them from 2018 to 2022. He was most recently coaching the state’s under-23 team.

Goud’s appointment comes on the back of a successful tenure with the Karnataka U-23 side. He guided them to their first-ever CK Nayudu Trophy title this year. With a distinguished career spanning 134 first-class matches for Karnataka and Railways, the 52-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the role.

The Karnataka senior team had a successful 2023-24 season, reaching the semifinals of both the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mansur Ali Khan, the former state pacer, will continue as the bowling coach. J Abhiram, who served as manager for the Indian team during their recent white-ball tour of Zimbabwe, will remain as the senior men’s selection committee chairman.

Karnataka has also appointed Karuna Jain, a former Indian batter, as the head coach for both the state’s senior and under-23 women’s teams.
