Driven by the spirit of Earth Day, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Kalamazoo and Michigan Waterways Stewards joined forces on April 20th to embark on a cleanup mission along the Kalamazoo River. Their efforts were not in vain as they successfully collected over 6,000 pounds of trash from a 6-mile stretch of the river.
The cleanup event resonated with the community, attracting 232 volunteers from 40 diverse organizations across the state. Their collective efforts extended beyond the river cleanup, resulting in the removal of a total of 8,900 pounds of trash throughout the week.
This cleanup initiative not only benefited the Kalamazoo River but also highlighted the passion of the community to safeguard its natural resources. The impressive amount of trash collected serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible waste disposal and the impact it has on our environment.
