The administration is working in close collaboration with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and key players in the tourism industry to create a roadmap for the revival. Tourism in Kalimpong suffered a significant blow following the flash floods that ravaged the Teesta River in October 2023. The frequent landslides along NH10, a vital road link, further hampered access to the region, discouraging tourists from visiting.
To address these challenges and restore Kalimpong’s tourism appeal, the administration is implementing a multi-pronged approach. This includes improving access to the region by upgrading infrastructure and enhancing existing tourism attractions.
One key element of the revival plan is the promotion of adventure sports, a domain managed by the GTA. Kalimpong already offers popular activities like Teesta River rafting and paragliding at Deolo. The administration intends to further develop and expand these attractions to draw in more adventure-seeking tourists.
Beyond adventure sports, Kalimpong boasts a diverse array of tourist attractions, including the serene Durpin Dar monastery, a picturesque golf course, the serene Mangaldham, the lush pine-view nursery, and the captivating Chitra Bhanu.
