The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has taken action against Kalitta Air, a Ypsilanti, Michigan-based airline, proposing a hefty $400,000 civil penalty. The reason for this action? The FAA alleges that Kalitta Air conducted flights using procedures that were specifically prohibited due to the software installed on their Boeing 777 aircraft flight computers.
According to the FAA, these restricted procedures were allegedly employed on a total of 44 flights, spanning the period from December 29, 2022, to January 26, 2023. This alleged violation of regulations has prompted the FAA to impose this significant financial penalty.
In response to the FAA’s proposal, Kalitta Air has requested a meeting with the agency to discuss the matter further. It remains to be seen what the outcome of this meeting will be and whether Kalitta Air will contest the proposed penalty.
