Kalki 2898 AD Dominates Box Office, Outpacing Indian 2

Kalki 2898 AD, the highly anticipated sci-fi epic starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani, has made a significant impact at the box office, generating ₹ 369 crore in its first four days of release. This impressive figure dwarfs the earnings of Indian 2, a much-anticipated sequel starring Kamal Haasan, which has earned ₹ 72.55 crore over the same period.

The disparity in box office performance is evident from the first day itself. Kalki 2898 AD garnered a whopping ₹ 114 crore on its opening day, while Indian 2, directed by Shankar, managed only ₹ 30.25 crore. Despite the star power of Kamal Haasan and the legacy of the 1996 blockbuster Hindustani, Indian 2 has faced criticism from some quarters, potentially impacting its early box office performance.

While Indian 2 saw a slight improvement in Hindi version earnings on the second day, reaching ₹ 1.3 crore compared to ₹ 1.2 crore on the first day, Kalki 2898 AD continued its impressive run, earning ₹ 70.5 crore on day 2. The film’s trailer, released in June, had garnered over two million views prior to its release, indicating considerable public interest.

The third day witnessed a substantial increase in earnings for Kalki 2898 AD, reaching ₹ 79 crore, further solidifying its dominance. Indian 2, on the other hand, experienced a decline in earnings, recording ₹ 15.35 crore on its third day.

The trend continued on the fourth day with Kalki 2898 AD earning a substantial ₹ 105.5 crore, while Indian 2, featuring Kamal Haasan in the role of freedom fighter Senapathy, recorded single-digit earnings of ₹ 3 crore.

The box office numbers paint a clear picture of the current cinematic landscape, highlighting the success of Kalki 2898 AD and the challenges faced by Indian 2. While the latter may have a dedicated fanbase, it seems the sci-fi spectacle of Kalki 2898 AD has captured the attention of audiences more effectively.
