Directed by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ features a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. While audiences seem to be enjoying the film’s spectacle, reviews on social media are a mixed bag, with some praising the sci-fi extravaganza and others finding fault with the plot, acting, and comedic elements.
Language-wise collections reveal that Telugu screenings across India contributed the highest share, estimated at ₹ 64.5 crore, followed by Hindi at ₹ 24 crore, Tamil at ₹ 4 crore, Malayalam at ₹ 2.2 crore, and Kannada at ₹ 30 lakh.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has garnered a flurry of reviews from viewers across the globe. Many have been blown away by the visual effects, calling it a ‘Hollywood blockbuster’ and ‘Hollywood stuff.’ Some have even commended the film for showcasing a new level of spectacle for Indian cinema. However, there are also those who have found the acting, plot, or comedic elements lacking.
One viewer remarked, “I couldn’t believe my eyes—am I watching an Indian movie or a Hollywood blockbuster? The quality and graphics are uncompromised. In one word, congratulations to the entire team. Proud of you all, especially Nag Ashwin. Love you, man.” Another viewer echoed the sentiment, stating, “Stellar is an understatement. Outstanding & enthralling feat from Telugu cinema.”
While some hailed the film as a ‘masterpiece,’ others found the screenplay to be underwhelming. One review read, “The visuals and set up is something that has not been seen from Indian cinema, Interesting storyline. However, the screenplay is done in a mostly flat way so far. Prabhas has fun character.” Another viewer called the film ‘Hollywood stuff’ while acknowledging the first half’s brilliance but also highlighting its shortcomings.
On the other hand, some viewers were left unimpressed. One wrote, “The movie is bearable whenever Prabhas is NOT on the screen. The world building is good but it’s boring first half. And Comedy falls flat! Some cringe moments too! So far very poor! Hoping to get it better in Second Half!” Another viewer was even more critical, labeling the film a ‘COMPLETE MESS’ and a ‘Heartbreak for Prabhas Fans.’ They lamented the “Useless Cameos to cover failure and Poor Direction, No Screenplay” and even compared it to Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiyaan,’ predicting a “200 Crore Loss Loading.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the impressive box office numbers indicate that ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has managed to capture the attention of audiences worldwide, and it remains to be seen how the film will perform in the coming days.
