Kamala Harris Officially Becomes Democratic Presidential Nominee

Vice President Kamala Harris has achieved a historic milestone by securing enough votes to officially become the Democratic Party’s nominee for the US presidential election. This announcement was made by the party on X (formerly Twitter) during a virtual roll call of delegates from across the United States. This event marks a significant moment as Harris becomes the first Black woman and the first woman of Indian heritage to be nominated for the presidency by a major political party.

The Democratic Party has opted for a virtual roll call this year, deviating from the traditional process of announcing the nominee at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). While Harris has secured enough votes to be declared the nominee, the formal roll call will continue until Monday, after which she will be formally recognized as the party’s candidate.

Since assuming the candidacy after Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Harris has been widely considered the presumptive nominee. Now, she faces the Republican Party’s nominee, Donald Trump, in the election scheduled for November. While Trump held a consistent lead over Biden for several months, Harris has narrowed the gap steadily since entering the race. Recent polling data, including the latest poll of polls by election analysis platform 538, shows a close race between the two candidates, with Harris potentially holding a slight advantage.
