Kamloops Man Curtis Sagmoen Faces New Charges

Kamloops, British Columbia – Curtis Sagmoen, a man from the Shuswap area with a history of violence against women involved in the sex trade, is facing two new charges of possessing ammunition after an incident in Kamloops on April 18. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

Sagmoen is currently subject to several court-imposed restrictions due to previous convictions, including three instances of assaulting sex trade workers and multiple breaches of his conditions. These restrictions primarily aim to keep him sober and prevent any interaction with the sex trade.

On April 10, the BC Prosecution Service granted Sagmoen’s request to vary certain terms of his probation order. This allows him to contact specific professionals and gives his probation officer permission to approve certain legal proceedings. However, the court added a condition requiring Sagmoen to keep his probation officer informed of specific contact information.

Sagmoen’s legal issues have drawn significant public attention since the remains of Traci Genereaux, an 18-year-old woman who had been reported missing, were discovered on his family farm in 2017. While no one has been charged in relation to her death, Sagmoen has been convicted of assault causing bodily harm and using a firearm during an offence, with victims who were sex trade workers. Concerns about Sagmoen were further heightened in early 2022 when the RCMP issued a press release stating that he is subject to a court-ordered probation that prohibits him from having any contact with sex trade workers.
