A goods train accident involving the Kanchanjungha Express has tragically claimed the lives of five passengers and injured at least 20 others. The incident occurred in the NFR zone of the Indian Railways, prompting immediate rescue operations.
Abhishek Roy, the Additional SP of Darjeeling Police, confirmed the casualties, while Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to social media platform X to assure the public that rescue efforts were underway with utmost urgency.
“Unfortunate accident in NFR zone. Rescue operations going on at war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working in close coordination. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the site,” Vaishnaw wrote.
