Kanchenjunga Express Hit by Goods Train in North Bengal, Passengers Injured

A goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchenjunga Express from behind near New Jalpaiguri in north Bengal, resulting in injuries to several passengers. The incident occurred in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district, according to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee expressed shock and concern about the accident in a post on X, stating, “Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, and medical assistance. Action on a war-footing initiated.”

Emergency response teams are actively working to evacuate injured passengers to nearby hospitals. Senior officials have also rushed to the scene to supervise operations and coordinate rescue efforts. This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
