Kangana Ranaut Sells Bungalow Amidst ‘Emergency’ Release Delay, Citing Financial Strain

In a recent development, Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has sold her opulent bungalow in Mumbai’s upscale Pali Hill. The sale comes amidst the ongoing delay in the release of her highly anticipated film ‘Emergency,’ a biographical political thriller that delves into the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Speaking to News18, Kangana revealed that the delay in the release of ‘Emergency’ has had a significant financial impact, forcing her to sell her property. She explained, “Naturally, my film was supposed to be released. I put all my personal property on it. Now that it’s not released, so anyway, that’s what properties are for – for times of crisis.”

According to reports, Kangana sold her Pali Hill property for ₹32 crore, having purchased it for ₹20.7 crore in 2017. The bungalow served as the office for her production house, Manikarnika Films, and was also the subject of a ₹27 crore loan she secured from ICICI Bank in 2022.

The delay in the release of ‘Emergency’ stems from a multitude of controversies surrounding the film. Kangana has stated that the film is ready for release, having received certification from the censor board and being vetted by four historians. However, she alleges that threats from certain groups, who believe the film misrepresents historical events, have hindered its release.

Specifically, Kangana claims that certain groups, who view controversial figure Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a religious leader, have pressured the government to ban the film, citing potential historical inaccuracies. Kangana maintains that her film is historically accurate and that previous governments have declared such groups as terrorists.

The film was initially scheduled for release on September 6th, but its release has been indefinitely postponed. ‘Emergency’ is a sensitive project, exploring a tumultuous period in Indian history. The film has been met with criticism from various political groups, including Sikh organizations, who believe the film portrays the Emergency period in a biased and misleading manner.

As the controversy surrounding the film continues, Kangana’s decision to sell her bungalow highlights the financial burden she is experiencing as a result of the film’s stalled release. It remains to be seen when or if ‘Emergency’ will finally hit the screens, but its release is likely to be surrounded by even more controversy and debate.
