Darshan Thoogudeepa Arrested in Murder Case
Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, popularly known as “Challenging Star,” has been arrested along with 11 close associates in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor. The incident occurred near a Mysuru farmhouse owned by Darshan, who is a close friend of Pavithra Gowda.
Forensic evidence has revealed the severity of the brutal assault, indicating that Renukaswamy sustained 15 grievous injuries all over his body, including his head, abdomen, and chest. The victim’s head was forcefully rammed into a vehicle, leading to a severe injury that ultimately contributed to his death.
The investigation team has requested an extension of police custody, arguing that crucial evidence and equipment used in the torture need to be recovered. Witnesses have informed the police that one of the accused, Raghavendra, allegedly lured Renukaswamy to a shed, claiming that Darshan wished to meet him.
It is alleged that Renukaswamy had made comments on Pavithra Gowda’s social media account, accusing her of causing a rift between Darshan and his wife. The victim allegedly used “indecent language” and posted offensive messages.
Reports indicate that a delegation from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has visited the victim’s family and provided them with compensation. The Kannada film fraternity remains divided, with some actors condemning the incident while others express support for Darshan.
Amidst the ongoing case, a political controversy has erupted, with a Karnataka BJP leader claiming that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had planned to field Darshan as a Congress candidate in the upcoming Channapatna Assembly bypoll.
Darshan has previously been arrested in 2011 for allegedly assaulting his wife. He was subsequently released on bail, and the couple reconciled, leading to the withdrawal of the case.
