Karachi Roads Closed for Iranian President’s Visit

Karachi, Pakistan – Several roads in Karachi will remain closed till 7pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2023, due to the visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi to the port city. In a traffic update, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema said the road closures are necessary for the security of the dignitary.

The closure will affect major arteries including Sharea Faisal, Sharea Quaideen, Dr Ziauddin Road, and MA Jinnah Road. Alternate routes have been suggested for commuters, who are advised to avoid the affected areas. Traffic police units have been deployed at various sites to assist with traffic management.

In addition to the road closures, mobile phone services have also been suspended in some areas of Karachi. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced that mobile services will be suspended on specific routes from 3:00pm on April 23 till 8:00am on April 24. The PTA said the decision was taken to ensure the security of the Iranian president’s visit.

Citizens are advised to take note of the road closures and mobile phone service suspensions and make necessary arrangements for their travel plans. They can contact the traffic helpline 1915 for assistance or information on alternate routes.
