Syed Mustafa Kamal, a Pakistani lawmaker, highlighted the stark contrast between Karachi’s woeful infrastructure and India’s advancements by drawing a parallel with India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission. Kamal lamented the deplorable conditions in Karachi, where open gutters claim the lives of children, while India has made significant strides in space exploration. He emphasized that the city, despite being Pakistan’s economic hub and gateway, has been neglected for years, leading to a severe shortage of fresh water, with the supply being hoarded by the tanker mafia. Kamal also raised concerns over the lack of educational opportunities, citing a report indicating that approximately 70 lakh children in Sindh province, which includes Karachi, and 2.6 crore children nationwide are not attending school. The lawmaker’s remarks follow a similar statement by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who pointed to the economic disparities between India and Pakistan, with India aspiring to become a superpower while Pakistan struggles to avoid bankruptcy. Kamal’s critique underscores the urgent need for Pakistan to address the glaring lack of basic amenities and invest in its citizens’ well-being and education to achieve meaningful progress and improve the lives of its people.
