Karachi’s Main Arteries Reopened After Closure for Iranian President’s Visit
Following the extended closure of major roads due to the Iranian President’s visit, the main arteries of Karachi were reopened on Tuesday evening. However, Sharae Faisal remains partially closed to ensure security measures are in place. The decision to close the port city’s main and link roads and declare a public holiday in the Sindh provincial capital was made in advance of the arrival of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
Following the reopening, traffic has resumed on the city’s main arteries, including MA Jinnah Road and Sharea Faisal, up to the FTC flyover. Rashid Minhas Road, which connects to Sharea Faisal, has also been reopened. However, not all link roads of Sharea Faisal have been fully opened, and petrol pumps along both tracks remain closed.
The Karachi Traffic Police issued a comprehensive traffic plan, urging citizens to use alternative routes to reach their destinations during the closures. The authorities have implemented a security plan involving a substantial deployment of law enforcement personnel across the city to ensure a peaceful environment for the Iranian President’s visit. In total, over 3,847 police officers and officials have been mobilized to safeguard the foreign dignitaries during their stay in Karachi.
