Karnataka Declares Holiday in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar for BJP Leader V Srinivas Prasad’s Funeral
The Karnataka government has declared a holiday in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts on Tuesday, April 30, as a mark of respect to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union minister V Srinivas Prasad, who passed away at the age of 77.
Prasad, a prominent Dalit leader, passed away on Monday, April 29, at a private hospital in Bengaluru due to age-related ailments. He was a former Union minister and a sitting member of parliament (MP) from Chamarajanagar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to express his condolences, saying, “I am extremely pained by the passing away of senior leader and MP from Chamarajanagar, Shri V. Sreenivasa Prasad Ji.”
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also expressed his condolences to Prasad’s family and offered floral tribute. He stated that the funeral will be held with state honors.
Siddaramaiah recalled that when he met Prasad 15 days earlier, they discussed politics, and Prasad did not seem pleased about it. He praised Prasad for his straightforwardness and his fight against social inequalities.
Prasad was a Dalit leader from the Old Mysuru region. He was previously with the Congress before joining the BJP in the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. He had stated that he would not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
