In a move that signals a heightened focus on alleged corruption during the previous BJP government, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced the formation of a five-member ministerial committee. This committee will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating the ongoing investigations into various scams that are alleged to have taken place during the BJP’s tenure in the state.
The committee, chaired by Home Minister G. Parameshwara, includes Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge, and Labour Minister Santosh Lad. This ministerial team has been tasked with evaluating the progress of investigations, ensuring coordination between various government agencies, and recommending further action.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the committee has been ordered to take action regarding the progress, coordination, and other aspects of the investigations into various scams ongoing at the government and investigating agency levels.
The committee has been given a tight deadline of two months to complete its mandate and submit its findings.
Earlier on Tuesday, Home Minister G. Parameshwara revealed that approximately 20-25 scams are under scrutiny, all of which occurred during the BJP’s time in power. He asserted that the committee has already begun its work and will thoroughly review each alleged scam.
Parameshwara’s remarks came in response to accusations of political vendetta, with some suggesting that the government is targeting the opposition after the BJP initiated investigations into alleged scams involving members of the ruling party. Parameshwara justified the government’s actions by stating that if the BJP engages in vendetta politics, the ruling party must respond in kind. The committee’s findings and subsequent actions will likely be closely watched as they could potentially reshape the political landscape in Karnataka.
