Good Morning Britain viewers were left wondering where Kate Garraway was on Thursday’s show, as she was replaced by Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins. Kate usually hosts the Thursday edition of the show, or presents the news if Susanna Reid is hosting, but this week it was Richard and Charlotte who kicked off the show, with Marverine Cole presenting the news. Kate’s absence comes shortly after the airing of her emotional documentary about her husband Derek’s battle with COVID-19 and the challenges they faced during his illness. Speaking about her reaction to the documentary, Kate said: ‘I couldn’t really speak for about an hour after that, it was sort of a humour reaction. I couldn’t really speak, I was overwhelmed, it was raw.’ Kate had previously spoken about the impact of caring for Derek and the financial burden it has placed on her family. She said: ‘I’ve appealed but that still hasn’t been processed two-and-a-half, three years later. If this is what it’s like for me, what on Earth is it like for everybody else? Something has to be done, or the whole service, the people working in it, everything is going to break.’ Kate’s absence from Good Morning Britain has not been explained, but it is understood that she is taking some time off to focus on her family and her own wellbeing.
