Kensington Palace Gives Update on Kate Middleton’s Cancer Treatment and Return to Work
Kate Middleton’s recovery from cancer is progressing well, but the timing of her return to royal duties remains uncertain, according to an update from Kensington Palace. The Princess of Wales is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy, and her closest circle is reevaluating her workload upon her return.
“We have been really clear that [Kate] needs the space and the privacy to recover right now,” a palace spokesperson said. “She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors.”
The spokesperson added that Middleton may not return to her previous role in the same capacity. “She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” the source said.
Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in March, after weeks of speculation and theories regarding her whereabouts after she paused public duties due to her abdomen surgery.
“At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a video shared on Instagram. “The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should go a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Middleton has requested privacy during her treatment, adding, “We hope that you’ll understand that as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
Middleton’s well-wishers will be delighted to hear that her recovery is going well, and they eagerly await her return to public life. However, they will also respect her need for privacy during this challenging time.
