Kaypee Leaves Congress for SAD; Chaudhary Slams Channi’s Impact on Jalandhar Congress

Former Punjab Congress president Mohinder Singh Kaypee joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday, prompting Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary to criticize former chief minister and Congress candidate for Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat Charanjit Singh Channi.

Chaudhary, whose mother Karamjit Kaur had earlier joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said the party high command needed to address the discontent caused by Channi’s candidature, which has led to loyalists leaving the party.

‘Mohinder Singh Kaypee Ji is a senior leader who has served as an MLA, MP, and state president of the Punjab Congress,’ Chaudhary said. ‘His father sacrificed his life for national unity and integrity. If such esteemed leaders feel disregarded within the party, the high command must take action to prevent further exodus.’

Despite Chaudhary’s support for Kaypee, the two have been fierce competitors in the past. However, Chaudhary’s criticism of Channi highlights the growing unrest within the Jalandhar Congress, which the party high command must address if it wishes to salvage its fortunes in the upcoming elections.
