Kemp Insists Georgia Is Key to Trump’s Victory, Despite Recent Tensions

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia asserted that his state is pivotal for former President Donald Trump’s path to victory in the 2024 election. Kemp, a popular two-term conservative governor, stated, “there’s no path for former President Trump to win, or any Republican…to get to 270 without Georgia.” He emphasized his commitment to working hard to mobilize the Republican vote in Georgia, highlighting its significance as a battleground state.

Kemp’s statement comes despite recent tensions with Trump. While Trump had initially criticized Kemp for his handling of the 2020 election, he recently praised the governor for his support in Georgia. However, just weeks prior, Trump launched a tirade against Kemp at a rally in Atlanta, accusing him of disloyalty and failing to overturn the 2020 election results.

Kemp, however, brushed off the criticism, characterizing it as a “small distraction” from the larger focus on winning the election. He stressed the importance of focusing on the future and outlining the reasons why voters should support the Republican ticket.

Kemp’s stance reflects the complex relationship between Trump and the Republican Party. While Trump remains a popular figure among GOP voters, his recent actions and statements have caused divisions within the party, particularly in states like Georgia where his influence remains significant.

Republican strategists acknowledge that Trump will need Kemp’s well-oiled political machine to help turn out GOP voters in Georgia, a state that was crucial for Biden’s victory in 2020. Kemp’s commitment to supporting the Republican ticket, even amidst recent conflicts with Trump, underscores the importance of Georgia in the 2024 election.

Beyond the 2024 election, Kemp also addressed the controversy surrounding the state election board. He acknowledged seeking legal advice on whether he can remove three conservative members from the board, who have been criticized for implementing new rules seen as restrictive by Democrats. This ongoing dispute adds another layer of complexity to the already tense political landscape in Georgia.
