Kennywood Sued Over Closed Roller Coaster

A season ticket holder at Kennywood amusement park in Western Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit alleging that the park withheld information about the closure of its Steel Curtain roller coaster for the 2024 season. According to WPXI and TribLive, Joshua Miller of New Kensington, Westmoreland County, filed the lawsuit in Allegheny County on Monday. The lawsuit names Festival Fun Parks, Palace Entertainment, and Kennywood as defendants.

Kennywood Park announced last week that the Steel Curtain roller coaster would not be open to the public this season due to an extensive modification project. However, the lawsuit contends that Kennywood and its parent company misled Miller and other customers into purchasing season passes based on the expectation that the roller coaster would be operating. It further alleges that the park knew beforehand that the coaster would be closed for the season but withheld that information to prevent losing customers.

TribLive reports that the lawsuit alleges the park violated the state’s unfair trade practices and consumer protection laws. Miller seeks $100 per violation for himself and anyone else who bought a 2024 season pass before the coaster’s closure was announced.

The Steel Curtain coaster debuted at Kennywood in 2019. It is 4,000 feet long, reaches 220 feet, features nine inversions, and boasts a maximum speed of 75 mph.
