Due to the ongoing detention of our employees by the Military Intelligence Unit in Kinshasa, Kenya Airways (KQ) faces significant challenges in effectively managing our flight operations. Consequently, we have made the difficult decision to suspend flights to Kinshasa starting 30th April 2024, until we can ensure adequate support for these operations.
The detention of our staff hampers our ability to oversee essential functions in Kinshasa, such as customer service, ground handling, and cargo activities, thereby impacting our capacity to maintain safe, secure, and efficient operations. We urge that our employees be treated with humanity and respect during this unjust detention.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. Your safety and well-being, along with that of our staff, remain our utmost priority. We are actively collaborating with investigative agencies and relevant governmental bodies in both the DRC and Kenya to resolve this issue promptly.
We also request adherence to the Military court’s order for their release to uphold due process, allowing our wrongfully detained staff to reunite with their families and resume their normal lives free from undue distress.
