Kerala Blasters FC is set to embark on the next chapter of their journey as they prepare to compete in the 133rd Durand Cup in Kolkata. Following a rigorous and rewarding preseason in Thailand, the Blasters are ready to take on Mumbai City FC in their opening match of the tournament.
The Blasters have been drawn in a group alongside CISF Protectors FT, Punjab FC, and Mumbai City FC. Their Durand Cup campaign kicks off on August 1st against Mumbai City FC. This will be followed by matches against Punjab FC on August 4th and CISF Protectors FT on August 10th.
Kerala Blasters, having debuted in the Durand Cup in 2021, are aiming to become only the third club from Kerala to clinch the prestigious trophy, joining the ranks of defunct FC Kochin and Gokulam Kerala. Club CEO, Kandarp Chandra, expressed his excitement, stating that the tournament provides a valuable platform for their young players to showcase their talent and gain invaluable high-intensity match experience.
In light of the recent natural calamity and tragic loss of life in Wayanad, Kerala Blasters players will wear black armbands during their opening group fixture. This gesture is a poignant expression of solidarity and condolences to those affected during this difficult time.
The upcoming match against Mumbai City FC holds particular significance as Kerala Blasters previously defeated them 2-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium on December 24th, 2023, extending their unbeaten streak at home.
The Durand Cup 2024 clash between Mumbai City and Kerala Blasters will take place on August 1st at 7 pm IST in Kolkata. Fans can catch the LIVE telecast of the match on Sony Sports Network’s Sony Sports 2 channel and the LIVE stream on the Sony LIV platform. Be sure to follow for all the LIVE updates from the match.
