A minor accident involving Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s official convoy occurred in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening, causing a stir. The incident took place when the pilot car in the convoy was forced to come to a sudden stop to avoid a scooter that veered into its path. This resulted in a chain reaction, with five other vehicles in the convoy colliding with each other.
While the Chief Minister’s vehicle sustained minor damage, he was thankfully uninjured and resumed his journey without any delay. The incident highlights the vulnerability of convoys, especially in busy urban areas, and has led to calls for stricter safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Videos of the accident, which have gone viral online, show the white SUV trailing the scooter abruptly braking. The six escort vehicles behind it, including an ambulance, were then seen colliding with each other. Security personnel can be seen rushing to assess the situation, while medical staff from the ambulance attend to any potential injuries.
The incident occurred at Vamanapuram in Thiruvananthapuram as the Chief Minister was returning to the state capital after a visit to Kottayam. Authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing existing safety measures to ensure the safety of the Chief Minister and his entourage.
Separately, in a significant development, Kerala Police on Monday registered a case against individuals accused of disrupting the iconic Thrissur Pooram festival in April this year. The case was filed by the Thrissur East police based on a report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by ADGP (crime branch) H Venkatesh.
The FIR, registered under charges of conspiracy, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and promoting enmity between different groups, is a result of the investigation into the alleged disruption of the festival. The SIT will be conducting further investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice. This development underscores the seriousness with which the Kerala Police is treating the alleged disruption of the revered religious event.
