The Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) has been bestowed with the prestigious Metro Expedition Tourism Award 2024, a testament to its exceptional contributions to tourism education. This award, presented by Metro Expedition Magazine, recognizes outstanding achievements across various sectors of the tourism and hospitality industry.
Dr. Dileep MR, the Director of KITTS, received the award from Smt. J Chinchu Rani, the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, during a ceremony held on Wednesday aboard the Classical Imperial Cruise. The event was graced by prominent figures, including Shri Mano Thangaraj, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, who was a distinguished guest. Shri M Anil Kumar, the Kochi Corporation Mayor, presided over the function.
Among other notable attendees were Shri K.J. Maxi, MLA; Shri E.M. Najeeb, President of the Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry; Shri M.R. Narayanan, Vice President of the South Kerala Hoteliers Forum; Shri Baiju Gopalan, Managing Director of Sree Gokulam Hotels & Resorts; Shri Kottukal Krishnakumar, General Secretary of the Kerala Tourism Development Association; and Shri Prasad Manjali, Chairman of the Award Judging Committee.
Established by the Kerala state government, KITTS plays a vital role in developing a skilled workforce for the tourism and hospitality sectors. Over the years, the institute has produced hundreds of highly trained professionals who contribute significantly to the state’s flourishing tourism industry. As an affiliated member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and an authorized learning center for the International Air Transport Association (IATA), KITTS offers over 10 industry-based courses, including an MBA program. The institution also conducts free training programs for both state and central governments, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in tourism education.
