Kia EV9 Production Begins in Georgia, Bringing Price Down by $7,500

Kia EV9 Electric SUV Production Kicks Off in Georgia, Bringing Affordable Options to Buyers

Kia Motors has officially initiated production of its highly anticipated EV9 electric SUV in Georgia, USA. This significant move brings several notable implications.

Firstly, the EV9 becomes the first electric vehicle to be assembled in the state of Georgia, fostering local employment opportunities and contributing to the region’s economy.

Secondly, the domestic production of the EV9 makes it eligible for the federal electric vehicle tax credit. This credit reduces the total purchase price of the SUV by a substantial $7,500, significantly enhancing its affordability.

Prior to the production shift, the well-priced EV9 was already among the most affordable electric SUVs available. However, with this price reduction, it becomes an even more compelling option for eco-conscious consumers.

If the 2025 model of the EV9 retains the pricing structure of the 2024 model, the base EV9 Light RWD model will start at $48,895 after the tax credit, down from $56,395 (including a $1,495 destination fee).

Customers seeking extended range may opt for the Light Long Range RWD model, which will now cost $53,195 and increase the range from 230 miles to 304 miles. Alternatively, the Wind e-AWD model offers a range of 280 miles and will now retail at $57,895.

It is important to note that these prices are based on the 2024 model, and there is a possibility that they may vary slightly when the 2025 model goes on sale. However, it is anticipated that the pricing will remain competitive, considering the elimination of import costs. Nonetheless, it is worth noting that the final list price may be comparable to the 2024 model before the EV tax credit.

The EV9 has garnered much praise for its modern and spacious interior, advanced technology features, and impressive performance. It is also one of the few electric vehicles to offer three rows of seating, making it an ideal choice for families looking to transition to electric mobility.

Despite the EV9’s impressive offerings, there are upcoming electric SUVs that may challenge its dominance. Hyundai is preparing to launch its own large electric SUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 9, which is expected to be priced similarly to the EV9.

Nevertheless, the EV9’s price reduction is undoubtedly excellent news for American consumers. The 2025 EV9 is expected to hit showrooms later this year, and in addition to the lower pricing, it is expected to incorporate the North American Charging System (NACS) charging port. Kia is also planning to introduce a high-performance Kia EV9 GT trim for the first time in 2025. Details of other upgrades are yet to be revealed.

As the automotive industry continues to transition towards electrification, the EV9 stands out as a compelling option for consumers seeking an affordable and family-friendly electric SUV.
