Kia America closed September with impressive sales of 58,913 units, fueled by substantial gains and record-setting performances across its lineup of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Despite having fewer selling days compared to the previous year, Kia’s EV and PHEV sales surged by 43% and 11%, respectively. This robust performance underscores Kia’s commitment to providing a diverse range of electrified and traditional powertrain options to meet customer demands.
Beyond the EV and PHEV success, four Kia models – Sportage, Forte, Carnival, and Seltos – achieved their best-ever year-to-date September sales, demonstrating the brand’s continued popularity across various segments. These models saw year-over-year increases of 10%, 6%, 5%, and 2%, respectively, showcasing the appeal of Kia’s offerings.
Kia’s commitment to electrification is evident in the impressive sales figures. In September, electrified models accounted for a notable 17% of the total sales volume, highlighting the increasing popularity of electric vehicles within the brand’s portfolio.
Kia is not only focused on selling electric vehicles but also on expanding charging infrastructure for its EV customers. In a significant move, Kia America announced that it will soon offer North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its popular EV6 and EV9 models, ensuring greater charging flexibility for owners. These adapters, free for customers who purchase a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or 2024 Kia EV6 after September 4, 2024, will provide access to over 16,500 NACS DC fast chargers across the U.S.
The brand’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond vehicle sales. Kia Corporation, in partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, celebrated a notable milestone in their joint efforts to combat plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. The Ocean Cleanup’s current System 03, symbolically returning to the port of San Francisco, has completed a significant haul of plastic waste. Since the partnership’s inception in 2022, Kia’s support has played a crucial role in removing over one million pounds of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP), a massive accumulation of floating waste covering an estimated 1.6 million square kilometers.
The positive sales momentum and commitment to sustainability place Kia in a strong position for continued success in the evolving automotive landscape. With the arrival of the all-new K4 compact sedan and the first-ever Carnival Hybrid MPV, Kia is poised to further strengthen its position in the market and drive growth in the coming months and years.
