Unveiled at Buckingham Palace, the portrait depicts Charles against a backdrop of vibrant crimson hues, adorned in the uniform of the Welsh Guards military unit. The butterfly hovering just above his shoulder holds symbolic significance, representing the metamorphosis of his role within the public realm. The portrait was commissioned in 2020 to honor Charles’ five decades of membership in The Drapers’ Company. Artist Jonathan Yeo, renowned for his previous portraits of Prince Philip and other notable figures, was entrusted with capturing King Charles III’s likeness. Employing oil on canvas, Yeo’s artistry resulted in a work of art that spans approximately 8-1/2 by 6-1/2 feet. Once displayed at Drapers’ Hall in the City of London, the capital’s financial district, the portrait will be available for public viewing from the end of August. This official portrait serves as a testament to King Charles III’s reign and his commitment to his role as monarch in the 21st century.
