Michael Cole, a former royal correspondent for the BBC, discussed the complexities of Meghan Markle’s experience as a member of the British Royal Family. He highlighted the warm welcome she received initially, noting that she could not have been more embraced by the nation or the Royal Family. Cole emphasized a significant honor bestowed upon Meghan by King Charles, who offered to walk her down the aisle at her wedding, considering the estrangement between Meghan and her father. He also mentioned the efforts made by the late Queen Elizabeth II to develop a friendship with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Following their departure from royal duties in 2020 and relocation to the United States, Meghan has rarely returned to the UK. She has been critical of the treatment she experienced from members of the Royal Family. In his memoir, ‘Spare,’ Prince Harry also criticized the behavior of Prince William and Kate Middleton toward Meghan. It was previously reported that William’s comments about Meghan, referring to her as an ‘actress,’ caused Harry pain.
William had allegedly made these remarks after Harry shared news of his relationship with Meghan in 2016. Harry recalled in his book that William stated, ‘She’s an actress after all, Harold. Anything can happen.’ Harry was initially hurt but responded with a nod, embracing both William and Kate. During another conversation, William expressed concerns about the challenges Harry might face if he pursued a relationship with an American actress. Harry perceived William’s language as implying that actresses were akin to ‘convicted felons.’
