KIOXIA has just unleashed its latest PCIe 5.0 SSD marvel, the XD8 Series, specifically engineered for cloud and hyperscale environments. This latest addition to KIOXIA’s lineup marks the third generation of E1.S SSDs, designed to keep pace with the relentless demands of modern systems for cutting-edge performance.
The XD8 Series is a powerhouse, boasting a substantial performance leap over its predecessor. Leveraging the prowess of PCIe 5.0 technology, the XD8 achieves a staggering sequential read performance of 12,500 MB/s and a sequential write performance of 5,800 MB/s, representing an impressive 73% performance boost.
It’s not just about sequential speeds though. The XD8 Series also excels in random performance, showcasing a 48% improvement in Random Read performance with 2,300 K IOPS and a 25% improvement in Random Write performance with 250 K IOPS. This comprehensive enhancement in performance ensures the XD8 is well-equipped to handle the diverse workload demands of modern data centers.
Behind this remarkable performance lies a combination of KIOXIA’s expertise and innovation. The XD8 Series leverages a custom-designed SSD controller, the company’s proprietary BiCS FLASH 3D memory, and advanced firmware for optimal performance. The SSDs are also fully compliant with the Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSD V2.5 specification and adhere to PCIe 5.0 (32 GT/s x 4) and NVMe 2.0 standards.
Available in capacities of 1.92, 3.84, and 7.68 terabytes (TB), the KIOXIA XD8 Series SSDs are currently being sampled with select customers, including Microsoft, where they’re being deployed in the Azure data centers.
Pablo Ziperovich, GM, Azure Memory & Storage Center of Excellence (AMS CoE), Microsoft Corporation, commented on the significance of this launch, stating, “The latest SSDs, like KIOXIA’s XD8 Series drives, provide high density, lower power, high performance, and serviceability that are required by Microsoft data centers.”
Neville Ichhaporia, senior vice president and general manager of the SSD business unit at KIOXIA America, Inc., emphasized the XD8’s capabilities, saying, “The KIOXIA XD8 Series is engineered to deliver superior PCIe 5.0 performance over previous generation SSDs and optimize thermal management, addressing the needs of OCP hyperscale environments.”
KIOXIA, a committed member of the OCP community, actively collaborates with leading server and storage system developers to maximize the potential of flash memory, NVMe, and PCIe technologies. Their unwavering dedication to innovation ensures that the industry remains well-prepared to meet both current demands and future requirements.
