Klipsch Flexus Core 300: Dolby Atmos Soundbar with Dirac Live Room Correction

Klipsch has unveiled the Flexus Core 300, a groundbreaking Dolby Atmos soundbar that features an exclusive integration of Dirac Live, a renowned room correction technology typically found in high-end AV receivers. This advanced feature sets the Core 300 apart as the first soundbar to incorporate Dirac Live, making it a compelling choice for audiophiles seeking exceptional sound quality.

The Flexus Core 300, set to launch in the winter at a price of $999, is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Flexus Core 200. While the Core 200 boasts a 3.1.2 channel system with the potential for expansion to 5.1.2 (or beyond) using Klipsch’s wireless subwoofers and surround speakers, the Core 300 handles 5.1.2 channels natively. This impressive capability is driven by an array of 13 drivers, including two 2.25-inch up-firing drivers, two 2.25-inch side-firing drivers, four front-firing 2.25-inch drivers, a dedicated center channel tweeter, and four 4-inch subwoofers.

The Core 300 also includes a dedicated HDMI input, a feature absent in the Core 200, allowing users to directly connect various external devices to the soundbar. This input supports 8K video passthrough, enhancing the versatility of the soundbar. While Klipsch hasn’t released a comprehensive set of specifications, it remains unclear whether the Core 300 will support variable refresh rate (VRR), 4K at 120Hz, auto low-latency mode (ALLM), or other HDMI 2.1 features valued by gamers.

The Core 300 goes beyond its predecessor in connectivity, offering Wi-Fi and Ethernet capabilities in addition to Bluetooth. This expansion allows for enhanced music streaming quality and paves the way for a more responsive user experience with the new Klipsch Connect Plus app, which operates over the network connection. Furthermore, compatibility with Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Google Home enables seamless integration of the Core 300 into multiroom audio systems.

Klipsch has also announced a new range of Flexus accessories designed to work seamlessly with both the Core 200 and Core 300 soundbars. The Flexus Sub 200 ($499) boasts a 12-inch driver, providing deep bass response. Meanwhile, the Flexus Surr 200 ($399) surround speakers incorporate height channel drivers, a feature absent in the Flexus Surr 100 speakers, enabling the creation of a 5.1.4 system using either the Core 200 or Core 300 soundbars.

Similar to the Core 200, users will need to utilize the included Klipsch Flexus Transport USB dongle to establish a wireless connection between the Core 300 and these accessory speakers. The Core 300 comes equipped with a Dirac-compatible measurement microphone and a limited bandwidth version of the Dirac Live software. While users have the option to upgrade to the full bandwidth version, Klipsch has yet to disclose pricing or a timeline for this upgrade. Additionally, it’s currently unclear whether Dirac’s Bass Control will be offered as a separate paid upgrade.
