Two students at Kiski Area Intermediate School were found to be in possession of six small knives on Wednesday afternoon. The students, who were not identified, brought the knives to school with the intention of showing them off to each other, according to a statement released by the school’s principals, Michael Cardamone and John Cortazzo. The statement emphasized that no threats were made or uncovered during the investigation. The discovery of the knives was made after the school received a report through Safe2Say Something, a helpline where students can anonymously report incidents such as bullying or threats. Three knives, ranging in length from 1 1/2 to 3 inches, were found on one student. The other student had two knives and a multi-tool with a blade of similar size. The school has since increased police presence and is actively investigating the incident. Parents are asked to review their child’s belongings and talk with them about being mindful of what they bring to school. The school emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe school environment and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the school or Safe2Say Something.
