Prepare for another round of thrilling mysteries as Benoit Blanc returns in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 3, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Set for release on Netflix in 2025, the highly anticipated sequel will once again feature Daniel Craig as the eccentric private detective.
Johnson shared the news on Twitter, teasing the upcoming film with a short video narrated by Craig’s Blanc. “In the beginning, the knives came out. Then, behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed,” Blanc says, setting the stage for another enigmatic and deadly puzzle.
Details regarding the cast and plot of Wake Up Dead Man remain under wraps for now, but Johnson has expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the genre it represents. “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” Johnson said. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
Knives Out, released in 2019, introduced audiences to Blanc and his razor-sharp wit as he investigated the murder of a renowned mystery novelist. The film garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing over $312 million worldwide against a modest budget of $40 million.
In 2022, Netflix acquired the rights to two Knives Out sequels, with Johnson opting for an anthology format. The first sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, was released in 2022 and received positive reviews, securing Johnson another Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
With Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on the horizon, fans of the franchise can expect another captivating and unpredictable mystery, as Benoit Blanc unravels the truth behind a new enigmatic case.
