The latest ICC Test rankings have seen some significant shifts, with India’s Virat Kohli making a climb up the ladder. Kohli moved two places to eighth, while his captain Rohit Sharma dropped a spot to sixth. Adding to the Indian presence in the top 10, young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up one place to seventh.
Meanwhile, England’s Joe Root continues to reign supreme as the top-ranked Test batter, following his team’s success in the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Manchester. However, it was his teammate Harry Brook who made the most significant leap in the rankings. Brook, thanks to scores of 56 and 32 during the Old Trafford contest, rose three places to fourth overall. This jump propelled him past Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Australia’s Steve Smith, and Rohit Sharma.
Babar, on the other hand, suffered a steep fall of six places to ninth after a rare failure in Pakistan’s Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. However, his teammate Mohammad Rizwan gained seven spots to reach a new career-high rating and secure a shared 10th position following his century in the same match. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim also achieved a career-best rating, climbing seven spots to 17th.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin remains at the top. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja maintained their third and seventh positions respectively. England’s Chris Woakes climbed four places to 16th, while Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando moved up 10 spots to 17th. Pakistan’s Naseem Shah (up four spots to 33rd) and England’s Gus Atkinson (up four places to 42nd) also achieved career-best ratings after impressive performances in recent matches.
Among all-rounders, Jadeja and Ashwin continue to hold the top two spots, while Axar Patel is ranked sixth.
